The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 Is Doing Good, But Not As Good As Fold3
Samsung recently unveiled its Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4 in its Unpacked 2022 event. And the pre-orders of the devices have already started. However, according to some insights, the Galaxy Z Fold4 might not be doing so great in terms of sales compared to the last year’s Galaxy Fold3 and Flip3.
According to some discussions on Twitter, Samsung might be struggling to push sales of the latest Galaxy Z Fold4 and Flip4. A Twitter handle with the username of @sondesix claims to have asked a Samsung representative about the pre-orders of the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Flip4. And the reply may sound a bit surprising to you.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 sales are poorer than the Galaxy Fold3
Samsung has wholly redefined its flagship smartphones with the idea of making its Foldables its flagships. It evidently became clear when the company merged the galaxy S series with the Note series by providing an S pen with the Galaxy S22. However, even if the new Foldables look quite enticing, Samsung is failing to grab market sales with its new devices.
A Tech enthusiast and a Twitter user named Alvin asked a Samsung representative about the pre-orders of the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Flip4. In reply, the representative said that the sales are doing good, but they aren’t as good as the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Flip3 last year. “I asked them, “how does it compare to the Fold3 and Flip3,” and they answered, “Woah, of course, the Fold3 and Flip3 sales are much better,” he wrote.
This begs the question as to why the per-order situation of the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Flip4 is not so great. Although several plausible factors come to mind, let’s talk about some prominent ones.
The jump from Galaxy Z Fold 2 to Galaxy Z Fold3 was more significant.
One of the prime reasons the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Flip3 launched in 2021 did well was because they offered a significant improvement over its predecessor. For instance, the hinge mechanism of the device was better, and the software was better optimized for a foldable form factor. However, the improvements that Galaxy Z Fold4 brings over the Z Fold3 are pretty minimalistic. Even the design of the devices does not bring any significant changes.
Although the pricing is the same as last year, fans had a higher expectation from this year’s launch. According to the launch event, some of the key differences that the Galaxy Z Fold4 brings over the Galaxy Z Fold3 are a newer processor and minor camera improvements. Hence, it might not appear to be a better buy for most customers.
Foldables hype is dying?
Another thing that comes to mind is that people might be over the foldable smartphone hype. Earlier, when Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold, it created a lot of buzz in the market. Since then, the company has launched four iterations of both devices yearly. And people might have realized that Foldables do not add additional value to their experience. However, many seem to like the form factor and love using a foldable smartphone.
If Foldables are declining in sales, it could be bad news for Apple’s rumored foldable smartphone that might launch sometime in the near future. According to reports, the company is already testing E- ink displays that could be either for a foldable iPhone or an iPad.
Lastly, we cannot say much about the final sales of the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Flip4 based on pre-orders only. Let’s wait for the sale to start on 26th August. What are your thoughts on this? Comment down below.
