Guys Drag Race A Tesla Model X; Act Surprised When It Dominates
So in the latest news, the guys from The Fast Lane Truck pitted the latest Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 and a BMW X7 M50i against each other and the winner was given a chance to drag race against a Tesla Model X.
The Model X, which took part in the drag race, is a Dual Motor non-performance version with a 0-60 mph timing of around 4 seconds. The Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 is the fastest among the bunch, at least on paper, and has a 0-60 mph time of under 4 seconds.
The BMW X7 is the odd one among the bunch because of several reasons. Firstly, it is the biggest one among the three SUVs in terms of size and seating rows. The BMW X7 is also ~426 kg heavier than the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63.
A fairer comparison would have been between Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 and the BMW X5M. I won’t spoil the race for you, well I kind of already did with the title heading but anyways, watch the video to get a better sense of my points.
Guys Drag Race A Tesla Model X Vs Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Vs BMW X7 M50i
As is apparent above, none of the cars fit in one category and it is by far one of the most improper drag races ever. However, it was still fun watching the presenter trying to put the BMW X7 in launch mode.
I don’t personally know how hard it is, but from the looks of it, it felt like some serious preparation is needed if you’re driving a BMW X7 and some guy challenges you to a race.
The launch control on the Mercedes was quite easy to set. One simply had to select Sports+ as the driving mode; this brought up the car’s specs on the screen and then the driver simply had to put their foot on the pedal and simultaneously release it as they pressed the throttle.
Since the Tesla Model X wasn’t a performance variant, it had no Ludicrous mode for crazy acceleration. One has to lower the ride height using the touch screen and they are all set to go.
Adding to the pile of reasons as to why I think this was an uneven drag race, I’d like to say that all the cars are way different than each other. Sure they might look the same on paper or at the surface, but every car-nerd knows that the BMW X7 is a full-blown SUV while the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 is a subcompact SUV.
The Tesla Model X is also a sub-compact SUV however it has a lot of weight, 5,500 pounds to be exact. And while the Mercedes is the performance version, because of the AMG tag, the Tesla Model X is the dual-motor variant, which is slower than the Model X P100D.
I don’t know what else to say, what do you guys think? Let me know in the comments below.
