PUBG Corp On The Hunt For An Indian Partner To Relaunch The Game

Earlier this month, the Indian Government banned 118 apps of Chinese origin, including PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite.

PUBG Corporation, the creator of the PUBG franchise, is now trying to bring back the game by taking PUBG Mobile’s publishing right within India. Also, the Korean game development company is looking for an Indian partner to distribute the game.

PUBG Corp: Indian Partner to Handle PUBG Mobile’s Distribution?

As per the report, PUBG Corporation is trying to negotiate with the Indian government to get PUBG Mobile unbanned. However, things aren’t that easy as it seems for PUBG Corp. After the ban, the Indian government sent over 70 queries to PUBG, and the company has to give a response within a duration of three weeks.

However, it isn’t like PUBG Corp isn’t doing anything on its behalf. Fortunately, PUBG Corp is planning to retain the publishing rights of PUBGM from Tencent Games within India, which is a great move. However, the company still needs an Indian partner to handle the distribution of the game.

Also, it’s still unclear whether signing an agreement with an Indian partner will lift the ban on the game or not. That’s because ownership of the game is just one of many issues. PUBG Corp still has to address other concerns like data privacy and security.

A senior government official told to Mint that,

“Ownership is only one of the concerns. But there are several other issues, based on which the ban has been ordered. The concerns are related to data privacy, security, activity inside the phone, etc.”

Interestingly, rumours suggest that Reliance Jio is in talks with the Indian government to take up PUBG Mobile’s distribution. But there is no confirmation on the same so far.

Also, even though the Indian government banned the game, the servers are still up and running in the country. So, players who haven’t removed the app from their smartphone are still playing the game without any difficulties.
