NuTyX 11.6 Linux Distro Released With Support For Flatpak Packages

NuTyX is a French Linux distribution (with multi-language support) built from “Linux From Scratch” and “Beyond Linux From Scratch” project featuring its own custom package manager called “cards”.

Continuing the development, NuTyX founder Tnut has announced a new NuTyX 11.6 release that supersedes the previous version 11.5 released in May 2020. So, let’s take a look at the new features and enhancements in NuTyX 11.6.

NuTyX 11.6: What’s New?

The latest v11.6 has upgraded its custom package manager ‘Cards’ from version 2.4.115 to 2.4.122. Along with a package manager that allows you to install individual binary packages or a group of related binary packages, NuTyX has also made Flatpak available.

This means you can now install more packages (i.e. Flatpak packages) using the universal Flatpak package management utility.

Among the desktop packages, NuTyX has updated its supported desktop environments such as MATE 1.24.1, Xfce 4.14.1, and KDE Plasma 5.19.5 (with its framework 5.73.0 and application bundle 20.08.1).

Coming to the core component, base NuTyX of v11.6 now comes with the Long-Term Support (LTS) kernel 4.19.143 and the latest stable 5.8.7.

Similar to the previous release, the ‘kernel-419’ package in NuTyX has replaced the ‘kernel-lts’ package. Hence, now, it includes four versions of the LTS kernel along with the last stable kernel, such as kernel 4.9, 4.14, 4.19, 5.4, and 5.8.

In addition, VirtualBox and NVIDIA graphics card drivers are also available for all five kernel versions of NuTyX.

Now speaking of NuTyX applications, here is the list of core utilities and desktop software with their updated version:

  • GNU C Library 2.31
  • Graphical server Xorg-server 1.20.9
  • Mesa Library 20.1.7
  • GTK3 3.24.22 and QT 5.15.0
  • Python 3.8.3 and 2.7.18
  • Thunderbird 78.2.1
