Is CW’s ‘The Flash’ Renewed For A Season 9?
As The Flash fans await the season eight finale episodes, numerous theories and speculations about the next season have circulated. However, the comic book Earth Prime has teased the return of one of the show’s major villains, Ramsey Rosso, aka Bloodwork, in the finale and subsequent season 9.
Is ‘The Flash’ renewed for a Season 9?
The Flash is currently The CW’s longest-running show, with eight seasons under its belt. And it’s about to extend that run. The show was recently renewed for a ninth season. It will continue the adventures of the Arrowverse’s Scarlet Speedster for at least another year.
However, the network has not announced a return date. Season 9 of The Flash is expected to premiere in the mid-season of 2023.
The Flash Season 9: Cast
The CW is yet to reveal which actors will return. But Gustin’s agreement to reprise his Barry Allen/The ash role in early 2022 is said to have paved the way for Season 9’s renewal. On June 28, TVLine reported that original cast member Candice Patton will return for Season 9 as intrepid journalist Iris West-Allen.
Meanwhile, Jesse L. Martin announced in April that he is leaving The Flash after eight seasons as Detective Joe West to star in an NBC pilot called The Irrational. We can expect the other main cast members Kayla Compton (Allegra Garcia), Danielle Panabaker (Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost), Brandon McKnight (Chester P. Runk), and Danielle Nicolet (Cecile Horton) to return.
The Flash Season 9: Plot
For the time being, Season 9 plot details are being kept under wraps. The Flash was not renewed for Season 9 until the final script was completed, as the writers wanted to ensure the character received a proper sendoff. “We were thinking, ‘Oh my goodness, we have to do this because maybe no one will get a chance to!’” he told TVLine.
Wallace also hinted that Diggle’s refusal of his “cosmic” invitation “served a larger purpose” by teasing a Blackest Night comic book storyline. However, he also stated that he is unsure whether Season 9 will mark the end for The Flash and he is expecting a delay in the storyline.
Fans are also expecting the villainous Bloodwork, aka Dr. Ramsey Rosso (Sendhil Ramamurthy), who last appeared in Season 6, to return in Season 9. Earth-Prime, a DC Arrowverse-themed comic book series, reportedly featured Bloodwork escaping from prison, with the promise that the story would be “continued in Season 9 of The Flash.”
