Facebook Is Turning Into Tinder With New ‘Secret Crush’ Feature
Facebook announced last year that a dating feature will be added to its app to help people in initiating “long-term relationships — not just for hookups.” Since then we haven’t seen many updates in the feature until now. At this year’s F8 event, Zuckerberg announced that Facebook Dating is coming to 14 more countries in addition to the five countries in which it is already available.
However, Facebook Dating is still not available in the US. Besides expanding it to new countries, Facebook has also added a new feature — Secret Crush — that will help users in expressing their feelings if they have a crush on a Facebook friend.
How does Facebook’s Secret Crush feature work?
The Secret Crush feature will allow users to select up to 9 people to a “Secret Crush” list and they will be notified that someone has a crush on them.
Once they add you to their list, you’ll be notified, and you can chat with your “crush” in a text-only messaging service integrated with Facebook Dating.
The feature will only work if the selected person has activated his/her dating profile which is segregated from the regular profile.
You can also add your Facebook friends to your crush list even if they haven’t activated their dating profile.
Facebook Dating is only available in the mobile app as of now and can only be accessed by users above 18 years of age.
With this new Secret Crush feature, Facebook is turning into Tinder where you can meet potential partners without swiping. It is seen as a move to entice younger users, as with the recent cases of data breaches many people are leaving Facebook to keep their privacy intact.
