The Ford F-150 Lightning, an electric pick-up truck, is finally going to make its first appearance on Wednesday (May 19) this week. Although the automaker confirmed the arrival of the Ford F-150 Lightning a long time ago, it never announced either its price or specs.
However, the U.S. automaker said it would be the most powerful F-150 ever made. The Ford F-150 is one of the best-selling pickup trucks in America. Due to its popularity, its electric version is now one of the most anticipated upcoming electric trucks on the market.
On its arrival, the electric Ford F-150 will rival Tesla Cybertruck, GMC Hummer EV, and Rivian R1T. Anyway, let’s put together all the information we have about the F-150 Lightning.
Ford F-150 Lightning Price: Expected
Being an electric truck, it’ll be costlier than its conventional gasoline variants. The top-end variant of the conventional F-150 comes with a price tag of $70,825.
On the other hand, its closest rivals Rivian R1T and GMC Hummer EV have a starting price tag of $67,500 and $79,995 respectively for their base variants.
Considering this fact, we assume the price of the Ford F-150 Lightning would be somewhere between $60,000-$70,000.
Meanwhile, Tesla Cybertruck will be more affordable than the rest of its competitors with a starting price of $39,900 for a single motor RWD configuration.
Performance
As mentioned earlier, the automaker claimed that the electric F-150 will be the most powerful pickup truck among its siblings.
The top-spec model Ford Raptor, among its F-150 family, churns out 430 HP and 772 Nm. With that said, the base variant of F-150 lightning will produce more than 430 HP and 772 Nm torque.
It will have an all-wheel-drive (AWD) configuration with a dual-motor setup. It’s also possible that similar to its competitors, the top-end variant might have a tri or even quad motor setup with a torque of up to 1000 Nm.
Furthermore, due to an electric powertrain, it’ll be quick in acceleration.
Towing Capacity
Back in 2019, Ford shared a video of a stunt it staged to demonstrate the ability of the electric F-150. The automaker filmed a prototype of the electric F-150 towing a cargo train weighing more than a million pounds.
However, real-world towing capacity will be much lower than showcased in the video. For reference, the towing capacity of Tesla Cybertruck is 14,000 lbs and that of Rivian R1T it’s 11,000 lbs. On the other hand, the rated towing capacity of the Ford F-150 Raptor is 14,000 lbs, which is currently the best in the segment.
Considering its competition, which more or less will have similar specs, we believe it would be somewhere around 1500 HP.
Although in the video, it pulled a million-pound freight, it was a prototype Ford made to show its ability just like we saw in the case of the electric Mustang Cobra Jet 1400.
Still, we hope the towing capacity will be one of the most highlighting features of the F-150 Lightning.
Electric Range
Unlike the rest of its features, the automaker has not given any clue that could allow us to assume for its electric range. However, considering the market, its competition, and the expert’s forecast, we say it would be close to 300 miles.
