Huawei AppGallery Is Third Biggest App Store, Says Huawei
At the Huawei Developer Day Submit 2020, the Chinese smartphone maker introduced a successor to its Mate foldable series, Huawei Mate Xs, but that’s not all.
Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei, also used the opportunity to talk about Huawei’s Google Play Store alternative, known as AppGallery.
According to the company’s official figures, AppGallery serves over 600 million Huawei devices in over 160+ countries. Other than that, the AppGallery now offers over 1700 Quick Apps (apps that can be used without installation)
The pitch was mostly sweet talk, targeted at developers. However, one thing that we found almost unbelievable is when Yu claimed that AppGallery is the third biggest app store in the world.
The statement might hold for China, given Huawei holds a major market share in the country. However, it’s hard to believe that Huawei AppGallery is one of the app markets in the entire world.
In addition to this, TechRadar reports that Huawei’s AppGallery in the United Kingdom doesn’t possess several popular apps, including WhatsApp, Netflix, Facebook Messenger, and more.
This comes a few days after Huawei announced an alliance with Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi to build a platform that will enable global developers to upload apps onto their respective app stores simultaneously.
Huawei is not voluntarily focusing on creating its AppStore. Previously, the tech giant was forced to remove Google Play services from its devices following the Huawei ban in the US.
Huawei is trying to survive without Google. Other than an App Store, the tech giant is also working on HarmonyOS, an alternative to Android.
