Zomato has acquired TechEagle Innovations, a Lucknow-based startup that would help them deliver food using drones. The food delivery and restaurant search platform has not disclosed the amount they have spent in the acquisition.

Zomato said that the acquisition would help them deliver food in India with the help of drones. The startup would help them in developing a technology that would initiate a hub-to-hub delivery network using hybrid multi-rotor drones.

TechEagle was founded in 2015 by Vikram Singh Meena and is closely involved in developing unmanned aerial vehicles. The company specializes in making custom-made drones that can carry load up to 5 Kgs.

Talking about the acquisition, Zomato’s CEO Deepinder Goyal said, “We are currently at the early stage of aerial innovations and are taking baby steps towards building a tomorrow wherein users can expect a drone to deliver the food they ordered online.”

Zomato is one of the leading food delivery company in India, and the company has partnered with more than 75,000 restaurants for delivering food across 100 cities of India.

In another related news, Wing, the Alphabet owned drone delivery startup, has announced that it will start drone-based food delivery in Finland from 2019 onwards.
