It’s safe to assume that generative AI has taken over every industry, be it interior designing, making music, or even doing homework. Additionally, as you may have seen, major players like Google and Microsoft are integrating this AI into search results as well, thus overshadowing organic content. In line with this trend, Brave, the privacy-centric search engine and browser, has announced its latest feature: “Answer with AI,” which cites information using artificial intelligence. Here is everything you need to know about it and the steps to disable/enable it.

Long-time Brave users would remember that the company first got into AI results in 2023 with the AI summarization feature. Building on this foundation, Answer with AI aims to revolutionize search results by replacing traditional listings with concise summaries tailored to users’ queries.

Available on both mobile and desktop apps in French, English, German, Spanish, and Italian, this feature uses the Mixtral 8x7B and Mistral 7B AI models to generate informative summaries with bullet points, making information more accessible to users.

Additionally, Brave claims that the feature provides up-to-date results and enhances privacy by eliminating the need to visit external websites and accept cookies.

While the Answer with AI feature functions smoothly and efficiently, providing users with relevant answers, it also reflects a broader industry trend of companies favoring AI-generated content over traditional media outlets. Additionally, since many users don’t even scroll past the first search result, this shift could have significant implications, potentially leading to job losses in the publishing industry.

In response to this, Brave stated, “We are aware of these challenges. Consequently, we will be monitoring and quantifying the impact of AI-generated content on-site visits, and eventually will address the disruptions that the drop in traffic could cause.”

How to disable “Answer with AI”?

If you don’t want your questions answered by an AI or worry about the accuracy of these results, Brave allows users to disable the feature as well. Here is how:

  1. Navigate to the Settings section in the Brave browser.
  2. Scroll down to find the “Answer with AI” feature.
  3. Toggle it off.
