internet traffic growth 2021 cisco
The world of Internet is soon to witness a massive boon in its usage via live streaming through websites, blog posts and an unending addiction towards Netflix and other networking and streaming sites. As per the CISCO survey released, IP traffic is going to hike up by 2021, of which videos will cover about 80% of the internet usage.

According to this networking equipment giant, there would be 27 billion internet connected devices worldwide. In addition, from 2016 to 2021, the graph recording the growth of networked devices per capita is to rise up from 2.3 to 3.5. With such growth in the rate of the number of devices and connections globally, IP traffic is obvious to levitate. The number of users using the internet, Internet traffic, networked devices, average broadband speed or average mobile speed is set to rise by 2021 compared to 2016.

Video streaming is expected to hold the tightest grasp on IP traffic overall. It is surveyed to consume around 80-82% of internet usage. Across the globe, as good as 1.9 billion Internet video users are estimated by 2021 relatively to 1.4 billion in 2016.

Network and security proportionately becomes essential to brace and assist the future of Internet. Transformation in digital technology globally demands network innovation. This will provide better and reliable access as well as connections to the Internet.

Global IP will notice a triple knot growth. It is expected to represent 3.3 zettabytes of internet streaming by 2021. Correspondingly, busy hour internet traffic is to grow. Wi-Fi and mobile connections will contribute approximately 73% to Internet traffic. On top of that ‘Internet of things,’ as the newest advancement, has also been driving this traffic growth. According to Cisco, healthcare would be taking the lead on loT. A shift towards a more digital economy means a shift towards mobile internet connections. A seven-fold growth of mobile data traffic can be expected in this period.

Cisco has also forecasted that DDoS attacks too would be increasing firmly. DDoS attacks may turn up to 18% of country’s internet traffic. DDoS is increasing proportionately with the internet traffic thus demanding a need for network security as suggested by Yvette Kanouff, SVP, and GM of Service Provider Business, Cisco.
