An Android Alternative? Huawei Is Developing Its Own Operating System: Report
As per different estimates, Google and its Android operating system is the clear leader when it comes to smartphone operating systems. However, due to increased security restrictions on Chinese players like ZTE and Huawei, things are getting difficult for them.
In the current scenario, a ban from Google might not be as far-fetched as it might seem. To face that situation, Huawei is working on its own Android alternative. This mobile operating system is being developed to facilitate Huawei’s entry in the US market.
As per a report from South China Morning Post, the company had been working on this secret mobile OS after the US authorities started their investigation against Huawei and ZTE in 2012. The work is also being done to develop homegrown solutions for laptops and tablets.
However, the operating system might not see the daylight in near future as it’s not as good as Android, and it’s a worst-case-scenario preparation.
The report states that the project was kicked off by company’s founder Ren Zhengfei. When asked recently at an event, a company executive said that the Huawei is capable of doing so.
Another report from the Wall Street Journal has stated that Huawei might also be under investigation for violating US sanctions on sales to Iran. At the moment it’s unclear what outcomes Huawei might face if found guilty.
