‘Game Changing’ Technology Turns Contact Lenses Into Tiny Computer Screens
Short Bytes: Scientists at the University of South Australia’s Future Industries Institute have used a polymer film coating that can conduct electricity. This electricity-conducting polymer film can make it possible to build a very small electric circuits on the lens, which would allow it to double up as a screen. This contact lens can also be used in Google Glass.
This eye lens which can conduct electricity and hence can also support a screen on the lens has been named as Optic-mistic.
The mention of glucose monitoring in blood in creating electronic displays has caught another attention in the market over the Alphabet which has also been working on a lens designed exactly for that. Verily is carrying out the research and production works for the Alphabet’s such lenses.
Verily was formerly known as Google Life Sciences. But it is apparent that Verily might not provide any wider functionality beyond tracking glucose levels.
However, the breakthrough in the contact lenses by Future Industries Institute could very well pave a way for putting Google Glass technology right into our eyes.
