Oculus Quest 2 Must-Have Accessories [Kiwi Design Review]
The Oculus Quest 2 is the cheapest VR headset on the market despite the recent surge in price. However, this price point has also impacted its design, especially its notoriously lousy head strap. Fortunately, third-party companies like Kiwi Design have made some great accessories for the Oculus Quest 2.
Before we start, I must mention that Meta has some official accessories for the Oculus Quest 2. However, these accessories are expensive and not as good when compared to products from third-party companies like Kiwi.
We have selected a few notable products from Kiwi and have been testing them for a week. So here are our impressions of the company’s Upgraded Elite Strap and Fitness Facial Interface.
Oculus Quest 2 Accessories Review: Kiwi Design
Kiwi Design Upgraded Elite Strap for the Oculus Quest 2
It’s no surprise that the most requested Oculus Quest 2 accessory is the head strap. This is because the default head strap is so bad that it can’t even correctly support the headset’s weight. Meta themselves have released an Elite strap as an additional accessory, but many users have reported issues with it getting snapped.
Kiwi Design’s Upgraded Elite Strap is similar to Meta’s head strap with none of its downsides. It even improves on the original by adding more leather and a hinge on the side straps. The hinge is the best design choice Kiwi has made as it makes it relatively easy to use the Oculus Quest 2.
Many Quest 2 owners like to show their VR headsets to friends, family, and colleagues. Unfortunately, the default head strap makes it quite uncomfortable for them as everyone has a different head shape. However, Kiwi Design’s Upgraded Elite Strap has proven itself quite comfortable for everyone I have shown it to.
Usually, putting on the Oculus Quest 2 for long sessions gets very irritating. However, the added leather padding n the top and the back of the head strap has made it quite comfortable to use. Users can also easily adjust the tightness of the Upgraded Elite Strap with a rear dial, which is quite convenient.
It is $10 cheaper than Meta’s head strap as it only costs $50. However, if you can catch it in a sale, it can even go as low as $42.
Kiwi Design Upgraded Fitness Facial Interface Set
The Oculus Quest 2 is quite uncomfortable when used for long sessions. This can get worse depending on the weather conditions. Due to heat and humidity, your lenses can even fog up. Quest 2 users have had to deal with this for quite a while.
However, third-party accessories from Kiwi have even solved this issue for the Oculus Quest 2. The Upgraded Fitness Facial Interface comes equipped with multiple vents. These vents allow heat to escape preventing lens fogging.
So now, even when I was using my Quest 2 in the middle of the summer without an AC, it was pretty comfortable. Even while playing active VR games, I noticed I was sweating less than average due to the heat circulation.
Another thing to be noticed is that the Kiwi facial interface is broader than the standard interface. Users can easily fit their glasses on the Oculus Quest 2 without any issue. Previously I had to remove my glasses, fit them in my headset and then put it on.
Kiwi’s Upgraded Fitness Facial Interface set also includes two leather face pads, one sports foam pad and a lens protector. The only thing I found helpful was the sports foam pad made of breathable fabric. It was pretty comfortable to use, and it could even absorb sweat. However, please don’t use it for too long, or it can get quite wet from all the sweat.
The Upgraded Fitness Facial Interface set is a bit pricey, coming in at around $52. However, you can also buy the standard version for $42. If you are lucky, you can grab these at a discounted price of $47 and $37, respectively.
Kiwi Design review conclusion
Kiwi offers a lot of different accessories for the Oculus Quest 2 other than the ones mentioned in this review. The ones mentioned in this article are some of their best products, especially the Upgraded Elite Head Strap, which is a must-have.
The facial interface is a good add-on accessory for the Quest 2, but it is up to you if you need it or not. You can also try out their knuckle grips cover for your controllers. All in all, we would recommend making sure that your Quest 2 experience is as comfortable as possible.
