Microsoft Skips Ahead To First Windows 10 20H1 Build For Insiders
Microsoft has surprised everyone by releasing the first Insider Preview for the next Windows 10 version which is slated for release in 2020.
The company has released Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18836 with the 20H1 development branch for Skip Ahead members of the Windows Insider Program. And no, that’s not a typo.
Contrary to what one would expect, Build 18836 is not from the Windows 10 19H2 (October 2019/1909) branch, and it is amazing because Microsoft hasn’t even finished working on the 19H1 branch.
In fact, folks at Redmond say that they aren’t even planning to release updates for 19H2 until “later this spring” after they get “19H1 nearly finished and ready.”
It is quite unusual for Microsoft to skip this ahead in advance, given that it releases only two updates per year and tests them with the public.
According to the company, some of the features that they were working on 20H1 required a “longer lead time.” It’s not hard to guess why Microsoft took this multi-tiered approach for the upcoming Windows 10.
The company probably took some cue from the bug-riddled Windows 10 October 2018 Update, which by the way, arrived late in January 2019 because of multiple issues.
In any case, Microsoft’s latest surprise is great for testers who’d like to get their hands on 2020 build way ahead of others.
