Rugged smartphones are typically known for durability and oversized batteries, but the 8849 Tank X takes things a step further. Along with its reinforced build, the phone packs a built-in Full HD projector, a high-powered flashlight, and a large battery that lasts several days on a single charge. The device is aimed squarely at outdoor users, campers, and professionals who need more than a conventional smartphone.

The Tank X is unapologetically large and heavy. It weighs around 750 grams and measures over 31mm thick, making it feel more like a rugged tool than a standard phone. The device is IP68-rated for dust and water resistance, meaning it’s designed to survive harsh environments where regular smartphones would struggle.

A Phone with a Projector?

Yes, you heard that right. The 8849 Tank X includes a built-in DLP projector that can project a Full HD 1920 × 1080 image with about 220 lumens of brightness. It has auto-laser focus and keystone correction, ensuring the image remains clear and in place with minimal strain. The projector has a projection distance of up to 10 feet, which is much better than the previous phone projectors.

Monster Battery

One of the 8849 Tank X’s greatest strengths is its enormous 17,600 mAh battery, which is significantly larger than that found in most smartphones. According to the company, the battery can last up to 3.5 days of normal use, 25 hours of video playback, and even weeks on standby, making it perfect for outdoor use.

The battery has a wired 120W fast-charging system, which means it takes around 70 minutes to charge. The battery also supports 10W reverse charging, which is perfect for charging other devices when needed.

Hardware, Display, and Cameras

Unlike others, the Tank X isn’t just about the battery or the projector; it’s a complete phone. Under the hood, it houses the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 processor, along with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The processor is more than capable of handling every task, including games. On the front, there’s a 6.78-inch 120Hz display that keeps content looking sharp and bright.

Camera hardware includes a 50MP main sensor, an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 65MP night vision camera supported by infrared LEDs. A 50MP front camera handles selfies and video calls.

In addition to cameras, the phone includes a 1,200-lumen flashlight that doubles as a camping light, along with RGB emergency lighting for visibility in low-light or emergency situations.

The 8849 Tank X is currently available for pre-order, with shipping expected to begin in early February. The device carries a listed retail price of $1,049.99, though limited-time early offers reportedly bring the price down to around $549.99.
