OnePlus Confirms New 120Hz Display For Its Upcoming Flagship
OnePlus has become a force to be reckoned with in the premium smartphone segment. By offering a host of features, the latest processor and best in the class Android skin under a well-balanced budget, the company has risen to the ranks. Now, OnePlus wants to take one step further. Pete Lau, OnePlus’ CEO announced yesterday that the company’s new flagship will include a 120Hz display.
Claiming it to be “the best smartphone display in 2020,” the new 120Hz OLED display has been designed by Samsung. OnePlus has also revealed that it will use a custom motion estimation/motion compensation (MEMC) chip which will help in inserting extra frames into videos to make them smoother.
OnePlus’ 120Hz display features an “exclusive optimization solution” that renders frames 7% faster. The display can hit the peak brightness of more than 1000 nits and the touch sampling rate has also been increased to 240Hz for a more responsive touch experience.
In his blogpost, Pete Lau mentions that the new Fluid display will have the industry-leading JNCD (Just Noticeable Color Difference) ratio of less than 0.8 thus offering highly impressive color accuracy.

OnePlus isn’t the first company to introduce 120Hz display, ROG Phone 2 and Razer Phone 2 already feature it. It is touted that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S series which is slated to be launched on February 11 will also feature 120Hz refresh rates.
It would be safe to say that after the megapixel war in 2019, the next battlefield for smartphones in 2020 is display. OnePlus is expected to feature the 120Hz display in its upcoming OnePlus 8 Pro or whatever it will be called.
