The latest update for Windows 10 has a bug that is directly affecting Windows Defender. The antivirus protection software is skipping certain items during the scan.
Users report that most of the time, Microsoft Defender scan fails after a couple of minutes, saying that “Items were skipped during scan” due to “exclusion or network security settings.”
Windows Latest reports that Windows Defender version 4.18.2003 or newer has this bug, and both the manual and automatic scan modes are showing this error.
Also, this bug is unique to Windows 10 only, as Windows 7 and 8 users are not getting this error.
As of now, it’s not clear if the glitch is with the notification system of the Microsoft Defender, or the items are really getting skipped during the scan.
One Reddit user pointed out that the scans by Windows Defender aren’t skipping any item. However, the notification system is reporting the error due to the bug.
“It seems like something caused the notification settings with the latest update to get weird. I did a scan with Malwarebytes after and found nothing. I did also do an sfc /scannow, and it found a corrupt file which seems to be related to OneDrive, but that seems unrelated,” said the Reddit user.
The bug was reported after the Windows Defender got updated with the Windows 10 update. But fortunately, the offline scan feature is still working without any issue.
