After waiting almost half a year, Microsoft has finally released the 5th installment of Windows-as-a-Service, i.e., the Windows 10 version 1803 (Build 17134).
While many things about the bi-annual update are known, last week Microsoft dropped the details about the release date. As per the announcement, it arrived on April 30. Just like the past couple of updates, Microsoft has given a visual overhaul to Windows 10 with various fluent design elements in apps and Settings app, which is gradually absorbing the Control Panel and other options across the operating system.
Timeline is the much awaited top-of-the-line feature in April 2018 Update that allows users to resume their past work and apps on their PC and across different devices. Apart from this, there are many new additions to the Settings app, including advanced graphics settings, new pages for Sound, fonts, etc.
Windows 10 has improved on Bluetooth connectivity with support for Quick Pair that reduces the pairing time with compatible devices. You might have seen a similar feature in Android Oreo called Fast Pair. Also, the April 2018 Update comes with an AirDrop-like wireless file sharing feature called Near Share.
Further, Microsoft has scrapped off their limited functionality OS called Windows 10 S and reintroduced it in regular Windows 10 as S mode. S Mode allows Windows users to restrict their computers to the Microsoft Store among various features. Recently, Apple iTunes made it to Microsoft Store. So, now, it’s compatible with the S mode as well.
How to download Windows 10 April 2018 Update?
You can go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. Click Check for updates option to start the download process. Else, you can wait for the global rollout that will start on May 8.
As it the case with every Windows 10 update, the rollout will happen in a phased manner over the weeks. That’s because Microsoft wants to make sure incompatible updates don’t end up on people’s computers and cause problems. So, it’s advised that you should wait for the Windows 10 April update to be pushed automatically to your PC.
Important: Do remember to backup all your data before updating your Windows 10 PC.
Download April Update Using Windows 10 Update Assistant
If you can’t wait, there always an option to download April 2018 Update manually. Visit Microsoft’s download page and click the “Update Now” button to download the Windows 10 Update Assistant tool.
After you run the tool, it checks your system to make sure it’s compatible with the update. Next, click “Update Now” option to start the installation process.
Download April Update Using Media Creation Tool
Alternatively, you can use the Media Creation tool to download the Windows 10 April Update ISO and create bootable to perform a clean install. Click the “Download tool now” button to get the Media Creation Tool.
- Choose the Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC radio button. Click Next.
- Choose the language, architecture, and edition.
- On the next screen, choose whether you want to create bootable USB or save the ISO file for later use.
- Click Next, choose the download location (if you chose the second option).
The ISO download will finish in a few minutes depending on your internet connection. You can burn ISO later using some bootable USB tool. So, this is how you can download and install April 2018 Update on your computer.
