Here’s Why iPads Don’t Have A Default Calculator App

There are some questions that are relatively straightforward but still, there are no answers to them. One such question that has troubled Apple iPad users is the lack of a native calculator app. While Apple offers a calculator app on the iPhone, Apple Watch, and even macOS devices, iPads are bereft of it.

Now, Craig Federighi, the senior vice president of software engineering at Apple has revealed the reason behind it. In an interaction with popular tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee, Craig said, the calculator app was not included in the first iPad because Steve Jobs found it lame to upscale an iPhone’s app for iPad.

Craig explained that Apple still hasn’t come up with a calculator app for iPad that would make people say “This is the greatest iPad calculator app.”

There’s some things that we have not done because we would want to do something really distinctly great in that space. We want to do it when we can do it really, really well. And we honestly just haven’t gotten around to doing it great,” he explained.

However, there are chances that Apple is working on the greatest calculator app for iPad as Craig also said “that day may come” when iPads will be shipped with a default calculator app.

In the QnA session, Craig gave the same reason for not including a default weather app on iPads.

Apple has recently acquired the company behind Dark Sky, a popular weather app available on Android which hints that Apple is working on a weather app and it could be the greatest weather app that Apple wants for its iPad users.
