Google’s buzzwords for 2021 are Pixel 6 and Tensor. But there is more to the story, and the company has introduced a ton of ML-powered featured. One of them is Live Translate that builds upon Google’s existing translation capabilities.
On Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, the in-app live translation can translate languages in real-time. Say, you are talking to a friend from Japan, you just need to enter your thoughts in English and the AI will change the text to Japanese in almost no time.
The feature works on the Android Messages app, and also on third-party apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. This means there is no need to copy and paste text from the Google Translate app, and you can save your valuable moments instead.
Live Translate is also meant to work on videos using the on-device speech and translation models. The Pixel 6 series can leverage the new Neural Machine Translation (NMT) model that uses up to 50% less power in comparison to previous models on Pixel 4, thanks to the freshly baked Tensor SoC.
The feature will be part of the Android 12 update that will arrive preloaded on the Pixel devices. You can get the new Google smartphones at just $45/mo and $55/mo with the new Pixel Pass subscription.
