Night Manager: Everything you need to know
The plot is based on John Le Carre’s 1993 novel The Night Manager. In a post-cold war spy story, a night manager named Jonathan Pine at a European hotel finds himself at the center of an undercover operation to bring down a notorious international arms dealer. In the British version, Tom Hiddleston played this role. Hugh Laurie plays Richard “Dicky” Rope, a narcotics and money laundering expert. Elizabeth Debicki and Olivia Colman also made appearances. In the Indian adaptation, Aditya Roy Kapur, the star of Aashiqui 2, and veteran actor Anil Kapoor will play these roles.
Shaan Sengupta, played by Kapur, is depicted solitary in the mountains during a snowstorm and states that darkness just fosters greater gloom. During this time, Kapoor, the cigar-smoking Shailendra Rungta (or Shelley), is put in charge of a raging conflict, certain that he will be able to elude the Indian police. Shaan is required to acquire the trust of the gun dealer while also working as a hotel night manager. A dangerous game of betrayal and trust ensues, with the protagonist learning about love and betrayal along the way.
Will he find his way out? Well, we will have to wait to find out. Meanwhile, if you’re looking for something light-headed to watch this weekend, check out our guide on Cirkus – here.
