Luther’s fifth and final season concluded in 2019 with Idris Elba’s character being sentenced to prison after years of doing things his own way caught up with him. The upcoming film, which picks up some time after the events of the series, will see the disgraced detective behind bars while a ruthless serial killer treats London as his personal playground. Netflix (which is co-producing the film with the BBC) has revealed the plot, describing it as
“An epic continuation of the Luther saga- a gruesome serial killer is terrorizing London while brilliant but disgraced detective John Luther sits behind bars. Haunted by his failure to capture the cyber psychopath who now taunts him, Luther decides to break out of prison to finish the job by any means necessary.”
As for the cast, the film will once again be led by none other than Idris Elba, who will reprise his role as John Luther at least once more. Dermot Crowely will also reprise his role as Detective Superintendent Martin Schenk, who was last seen regretfully putting Luther behind bars. The other cast members include Cynthia Erivo and Andy Serkis among others.
