How to make the battle of Tesla Model X Vs Porsche Cayenne more interesting? Well, just add a Ford F250 into the mix. Lads at The Fast Lane Car conducted the ultimate tug of war between these giant vehicles for fun and research purposes.
We have previously seen that weight and traction are two necessary factors involved in winning a tug of war. Therefore, to make the latest competition even more difficult, the chaps conducted the test on slippery snow.
So who will win in this ultimate tug of war? Watch here to find out:
Tesla Model X Vs Porsche Cayenne Vs Ford F250
Right from the get-go, we can see that the Porsche Cayenne has an advantage over the Tesla Model X because of ‘dedicated snow-tires.’ Despite this clear edge, the Porsche Cayenne wasn’t able to tow the Tesla Model X.
Later on, after putting the Porsche Cayenne in ‘offroad mode’ it was barely able to move the Tesla Model X from its original starting position. During this time, the snow around both the cars melted due to continuous tyre spin.
The people conducting the tests did acknowledge that despite having no dedicated ‘snow tyres’ and no differential lock available on the Tesla Model X, the Cayenne barely managed to pull it through.
The massive weight of the Tesla Model X is a factor here but let’s not forget the 900+ ft-lb of instant torque that the EV puts onto the ground.
By comparison, the Porsche Cayenne only has 530 ft-lb or 720 nm of torque. We have also witnessed the sheer power of Tesla Model X during an earlier ‘tow-test.’ The Model X was able to pull a 4,400-pound horse trailer at the Ike Gauntlet, which is supposed to be one of the toughest towing challenges for a vehicle.
Then came the Porsche’s turn to face off against the Ford F250. This goes without saying but Porsche Cayenne simply cannot pull the humungous Ford F250 but as we saw in the video, the result was quite interesting.
Porsche Cayenne makes 514 HP and 530 ft-lb of torque, while the Ford F250 is underpowered with just 385 HP and 430 ft-lb of grunt. However, what the F250 has is weight, a lot of it.
The four-wheel-drive F250 weighs around 6,114 pounds. For comparison, the Porsche Cayenne weighs about 4,982 pounds while the Tesla Model X comes in at 5,531 pounds.
Initially, during the tug-of-war, we saw that the Ford F250 lost traction and was pulled away by the Porsche Cayenne Turbo. However, as soon as it gained footing, the Ford F250 started pulling the Porsche without breaking a sweat.
What also helped the Ford F250 was the inclusion of off-road tyres, similar to what the Porsche Cayenne had. If the Tesla Model X was equipped with a similar set of rubber, it too would’ve easily won.
This goes to show how big of difference traction and weight of the vehicle plays during any tug of war.
Where Was Tesla Model X Vs Ford F250?
We have previously seen a competition between these two vehicles and the Ford F250 came out on top because of its huge weight.
The Tesla Model X did manage to win during one round against the Ford F250 when it gained traction early and started moving quickly.
Needless to say, if you want to win a tug of war, you want a super-heavy vehicle. Speaking of super-heavy vehicles, I’d love to see a tug-of-war between Porsche Taycan Turbo S (5,132 pounds) and Tesla Model X.
Let me know in the comments if you too want the same.
