Tesla Model Y Vs Jaguar I-Pace

Who will win the fight for the Tesla Model Y Vs. Jaguar I-Pace?

The Tesla Model Y is a successful electric SUV, a category of vehicle in which the Jaguar I-Pace, another EV, once competed. Jaguar I-Pace was launched in late 2018, but its production was halted along with that of the Audi e-Tron in early 2020, due to lithium-ion battery shortages.

However, it was one of the electric SUVs that had its dedicated racing series, through which Jaguar tried to improve the battery efficiency of I-Pace.

But upon comparing it to the Model Y, it shows why legacy automakers fail as Tesla succeeds in making electric cars.

Tesla Model Y Vs. Jaguar I-Pace: Here’s Why Tesla Wins?

Jonathan Stewart made the specs comparison on his YouTube Channel, the Cleanerwatt.

Tesla Model Y vs. Jaguar I-Pace Price

Let’s compare the base Tesla Model Y with the entry-level variant of Jaguar I-Pace. The price of the Model Y Long Range All-Wheel Drive model is $54,190. Meanwhile, the price of the base Model Jaguar I-Pace is $70,875.

The entry-level of I-Pace does not come with a lot of features. Therefore, to add stuff like a power trunk, heated seats, fog lamps, etc., an additional $6,160 needs to be added to the cost of Jaguar I-Pace. Thus, bringing the total cost of the vehicle to $77,035.

Right off the bat, we can see that the Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD had a price advantage of $22,845.

Dimensions Comparison

Jaguar iPace Electric Car vs Tesla Model 3

The Jaguar I-Pace has a more significant ground clearance than the Model Y. However, the Tesla Model Y has more driver headroom and more legroom in the front and back seats as well.

Even in terms of storage space, the Model Y has the upper hand. It comes with 56 cubic feet or 1,585 liters of boot space, while the Jaguar I-Pace only comes with 52 cubic feet or 1,472 liters of boot space.

Model Y vs. I-Pace Power & Battery Comparison

Tesla Model Y Vs Jaguar I-Pace Perfomace

In terms of performance, the Model Y Long Range has a top speed of 135 miles, with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 4.8 seconds and an EPA range of 316 miles.

Meanwhile, the Jaguar I-Pace can go from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds, a top speed of 124 mph, and a range of 234 miles, according to the EPA cycle.

Here, the Model Y is slower from 0 to 60 mph than the I-Pace but offers higher top speed and considerably more battery range.

So even in terms of performance, the Tesla Model Y trumps over Jaguar I-Pace.

Tesla Model Y vs. Jaguar I-Pace Charging Comparison

Charging time is one of the most important factors to consider when choosing an electric car. It depends on the size of the battery, the efficiency of the powertrain, and the charging rate.

The Tesla Model Y offers 316 miles of range from a 76 kWh battery. The electric powertrain has a consumption of 234 wh/mile, and the Model Y can travel 4.24 miles/kWh.

Meanwhile, the Jaguar I-Pace offers 234 miles of range from a 90 kWh, with a consumption of 385 Wh/mile, and the I-Pace can travel 2.6 miles/kWh.

It is visible that the Model Y offers a better range from a smaller battery and is hence more efficient. The final nail in the coffin of I-Pace is the charging rate.

The Model Y can charge at a rate of 250 kW using the Tesla Supercharger, thus gaining a range of 158 miles in 15 minutes.

The Jaguar I-Pace charges at a maximum rate of 100 kW and gets a range of 62 miles in 15 minutes.
