Stephen Hawking and Yuri Milner Spending $100 Millions To Search Aliens: Breakthrough Listen

Do you think Aliens are living amongst us (yes, just like the MIB movies), or do you believe in the conspiracy theories of Area 51? Well, it’s time to get over it. When someone like Stephen Hawking wants to look out for ET, just believe that they are not here yet.

Yuri Milner, a Russian entrepreneur and philanthropist and the genius physicist Stephen Hawking today broadcasted a live webcast from London, announcing the project funding of $100 million to the SETI researchers.

SETI is the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence and has been on the look out for the aliens since 1960. The 85-foot radio telescope was set up by the astronomer Frank Drake and was the first instrument used to detect extraterrestrial radio transmissions. But, it has nor achieved any success (obviously!! else we would have known) yet, and neither the grants and special efforts by the scientists.

Yuri Milner as passionate as he is for science, has formed the Breakthrough Prize Foundation and awards the most generous prizes for the remarkable scientific projects. The latest funding is the part of Foundation’s new Breakthrough Initiatives and is called Breakthrough Listen.

The funding of $100 million for the next decade to the SETI scientists will provide them the latest gadgets like state-of-the-art radios and allow them to use the world’s best and most sophisticated telescopes.

The Breakthrough Listen project is set to start in 2016 and will be one of the most aggressive and dedicated research ever done to find diaspora of life in the interstellar space.
