Since its first trailer debuted in December, Scream 6 has had a lot of fun promoting its New York City setting. Even the movie’s self-promotion has been bloody in Times Square. Because of this, it will be quite interesting to see how this legendary slasher brand acclimates to its new urban setting. The focus of the movie, teaser poster, and now a new poster has all been on the most well-liked means of transit in NYC. New Yorkers now have to worry about the possibility that Ghostface will be on their commute home on Halloween as if the Subway wasn’t already terrifying enough.

The poster was shared on Scream’s social media pages. It depicts six different New York City subway lines drawing out a Ghostface mask. It seems innocent enough. But a former franchise character is substituted at each location. As each line corresponds to one of the six movies in the franchise, it is merely the beginning.
The colors red, green, yellow, orange, blue, and purple correspond to the original Scream, Scream 2, Scream 3, Scream 4, SCREAM(2022), and Scream 6, respectively. Each stop on each line corresponds to the location where each character is said to have been murdered by Ghostface. Along with Sam Carpenter, Kirby is the only character who has survived Ghostface, as we discovered in SCREAM.
Obviously, the most iconic of these lines is Scream’s red line. It follows the murder spree that began the entire franchise with Sidney Prescott’s mother, Maureen Prescott. That infamous red line runs from the opening scene with Casey Backer all the way up to Stu Macher and Billy Loomis’ iconic Ghostface reveal. Every Ghostface since has modeled their killing spree after that psychotic couple. However, what these individual films and lines have in common is that they all lead back to Sam Carpenter. Ghostface appears to have big plans for her and her friends in New York.
Since Scream relaunched early last year, there have been numerous theories about who is still alive in this franchise. This celebratory new poster, however, only adds fuel to the fire for a legacy killer or character to return. While we wait for Jenna Ortega to return to Scream 6 on March 10, 2023, you can check out all her upcoming shows here.
