It’s good news, one after the other. First, Joaquin Phoenix won the best actor Oscar for the movie Joker (also, my favorite movie of 2019).
Then, Samsung snatched the 92nd Academy Award’s limelight, for a brief moment, to show off its latest foldable phone – Galaxy Z Flip.
In a commercial break during the Oscars, the Korean tech giant teased the entire phone, just a day ahead of Samsung’s Unpacked event in San Francisco.

Samsung’s new ad clears up a few things about the phone. First, the Galaxy Z Flip does not appear to fold flat as compared to Motorola’s Razr, another clamshell-style flip phone which does not leave a gap in between.
A copy in the ad says, “You may notice a small crease in the center of the main screen, which is a natural characteristic of the screen.” This confirms that Galaxy Z Flip will have a crease, similar to Samsung Galaxy Fold.
The teaser also shows off the small front screen of the Galaxy Z Flip. It appears users will be able to see the caller ID, as well as options to accept or reject calls.
The Galaxy Z Flip has two colors; Purple and Black, a dual camera on the back, and a punch-hole on the front.
What else?
Previous leaks have indicated that the phone will feature a 6.7-inch OLED display on the inside, while a small 1-inch screen on the outside. As for the internals, Galaxy Z Flip will have a Snapdragon 855+, 8GB of RAM, and has a 3,300 mAh battery.
Along with Galaxy Z Flip, Samsung will introduce three new Galaxy S20 phones, and certainly a successor to Galaxy Buds.
