Fellow Indians, forget the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge! Welcome the Indian version of the challenge with open arms and big hearts.

Manju Latha Kalanidhi of Hyderabad has started this campaign after watching the Ice Bucket Challenge going viral in Indian media, among Indian Celebrities and common people.

The Facebook page of the Rice Bucket Challenge says, “Indian version for Indian needs.”

The rules are pretty simple and you don’t even have to drench yourself with ice cold water and waste it. All you have to do is find a needy person and donate him/her a bucket full of rice. Just like the Ice Bucket Challenge, use hashtag #RiceBucketChallenge and challenge your friends to do the same. Instead, people can also donate medicines worth Rs 100 to their nearest government hospital.

Manju Latha Kalanidhi posted it on Facebook and started off this challenge. She wrote, “My own local, practical and tangible version/response to #icebucketchallenge…save water feed the hungry!”

The #RiceBucketChallenge is getting popular and people are posting pictures on twitter and facebook to spread the message.
