Ever since news got out that Realme would debut its first-ever laptop lineup, fans fervently anticipated more information on the same. Now that the company has officially launched the product, we have a clear idea of Realme Book and Realme Book Slim’s hardware specifications and price.
The Realme Book is making its way to China, whereas its re-branded version of Realme Book Slim is headed for the Indian market.
Apparently, the laptop has borrowed design esthetics from Apple’s Macbook. Hence, it is likely to attract customers who are looking for a more affordable MacBook alternative. But, whether these layout and design decisions will translate into comparable performance is yet to be seen.
During the launch event, Realme India and Europe CEO Madhav Sheth expressed that the company’s laptop venture isn’t just for the sake of expanding but a serious commitment. He said, “We don’t want to launch it to expand into a new category and bring compromised products. We want to bring you the best in class products.”
Realme Book Specifications
Design
As the event progressed, Product Marketing Manager Alessio Bradde gave us a run-down on the laptop’s features. The Realme Book has a 14-inch, 2K (2160×1440) IPS display with a 3:2 aspect ratio in terms of on-paper specs. The screen features 400 nits peak brightness and 100% sRGB color gamut to deliver a vivid experience.
Moreover, the bezel-less screen gives you a 90% screen ratio which, as Bradde remarked, is higher than MacBook’s 80% screen ratio. Rounding up the display specs, he pronounced that the Realme Book could be “the best screen you get in this price range.”
Moving on from the display, another area Realme has prioritized is the laptop’s size. As Bradde revealed, the Chinese brand’s laptop is 14.9mm thick and weighs only 1.38Kg. Comparing this to its Apple counterpart, he revealed that Realme Book is lighter than the MacBook Pro (1.4Kg) but slightly heavier than MacBook Air (1.29Kg). However, when it comes to sleekness, it trumps both the MacBook variants — Pro is 15.6mm thick, while the Air measures up to 16.1mm. The laptop’s chassis is fully metallic and reportedly offers a premium feel and look.
The promotional videos during the event showed two color options, namely, Real Blue and Real Grey.
Performance
Talking about the power Realme Book packs inside, Bradde revealed that the laptop houses Intel’s 11th Gen i5 processor, significantly faster than the previous gen. It uses the onboard Intel Iris Xe Graphics to deliver rendering tasks, which slightly outperforms Nvidia GeForce MX350, a dedicated GPU.
Although Realme’s laptop is powerful enough for video editing, 3D modeling, and programming, it isn’t really the best option for gamers. The benchmarks depict the laptop handling light games, including Overwatch and League Of Legends, quite well but barely managing playable framerates for titles such as Shadow Of The Tomb Raider.
The laptop also comes with up to 8GB LPDDR4x RAM and up to 512GB PCIe SSD. Realme is shipping Windows 10 out-of-the-box and has promised a free upgrade to Windows 11 in the future.
To keep Realme Book running smoothly during resource-hungry tasks, the Chinese tech giant has employed a Dual-fan Storm Cooling System. This, apparently, ensures the laptop stays cool and noise-free when pushed to its limits.
Battery and Connectivity
Realme Book supports a 65W Super Fast Charge for its power needs, which can get the battery from zero to fifty percent in about 30 mins. It also supports the 30W Dart Charger used with Realme smartphones. The laptop lasts 8.5 hrs in “simulated office time” on the battery backup side, courtesy of its 54Wh battery.
Its other features are DTS Stereo Sound, Dual Mic Noise Cancelation, an HD camera, and a backlit keyboard. For security purposes, the laptop comes with a built-in fingerprint scanner on the power button.
Connectivity options include a 3.5mm jack, USB-A 3.1 Gen 1, USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, and Thunderbolt 4. This array of ports offers data transfer speeds of up to 40Gb/s and can cast the screen on two 4K displays simultaneously. Adding to these, it also supports the latest WiFi 6 standard and Bluetooth 5.2.
Realme’s PC Connect app further expands connectivity by offering seamless interaction between your laptop and your smartphone.
