The towering fame of Fortnite received another major boost today when Epic Games announced in a blog post that they would pool massive $100 million for Fortnite Esports tournament prize in the debut year of competitive play.
The gigantic amount will be distributed amongst winners in the 2018/19 competitive season. This eye-popping prize money will simply blow the other esport tournaments out of the water. To get an idea, the top ten esports games gave away just $91 million in total. The world popular Dota 2 by Valve awarded $38 million to players across 139 tournaments organized last year.
The ton of money will act as an attraction to draw many players to the official Fortnite competitions that will be organized towards the later part of the year. There is no information about the structure of tournament as of now, but the announcement has added fuel to the already hyped tournament which will undoubtedly garner the attention of famous gamers from all over the world.
“Since the launch of Fortnite Battle Royale we’ve watched the passion for community competition grow and can’t wait to empower you to battle with the best,” said the official blog post. Epic also added, “We’re getting behind competitive play in a big way, but our approach will be different – we plan to be more inclusive, and focused on the joy of playing and watching the game.”
