Apple Pencil was one of the surprises that we witnessed at the last Apple iPhone launch event. The product has been out of the stock and is running in low supply in the stores. If you visit an Apple Store, it’s possible that they won’t be having even demo units.

The reason why Apple Pencils are disappearing from the Apple Stores might surprise you. Yes, this is happening as people are stealing the Apple Pencils from the Apple Stores.

According to the various media reports on the web and people tweeting their experiences, Apple Pencil needs to be un-tethered from the iPad Pro – hence anyone can pick it and steal it.

People visiting the Apple Stores are reporting that the most of the demo units are stolen. “Yesterday saw guy next to me steal a limited supply Apple pencil demo unit. Employees didn’t bother chasing him,” a Twitter user tweeted. A Reddit user IMPRNTD said, “[m]y local store in Canada mentioned that most of the Apple Pencils were stolen.”

It should be noted that unlike other Apple devices, Apple Pencil comes without any security mechanism, hence there isn’t anything that could be done after the theft.

It should be noted that the stylus works exclusively with the iPad Pro. So, the thief won’t be having much to do with it beside listing it on eBay.
