Official: OnePlus 8 Pro Will Come With 30W Wireless Charging

OnePlus 8 series will be released on April 14th, as the company announced last week. OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau, has already confirmed the inclusion of ultra flagship device OnePlus 8 Pro and 5G support for the entire series.

Today, Pete Lau confirmed another feature that we’ll see in OnePlus 8 Pro. Speaking to The Verge, he said that OnePlus 8 Pro would support wireless charging.

This comes after the company’s CEO described his dissatisfaction with wireless charging back in 2019. He said that we won’t include wireless charging in OnePlus devices until it is as fast as its wired charging.

However, the company will now offer 30W fast wireless charging support in OnePlus 8 Pro. OnePlus has also shared details about its wireless charging tech on its forum. It mentions that the wireless charger will charge the smartphone by 50% in just 30 minutes.

This is incredibly fast, given that most contemporary smartphone brands such as Apple and Samsung support 7.5W and 15W wireless charging, respectively.

OnePlus’ fast wireless charger will be exclusive for OnePlus smartphones, but both the charger and the smartphone will be Qi certified. It means that you will be able to charge OnePlus 8 Pro on any Qi-certified wireless charger.

OnePlus has also included a fan since a 30W wireless charger is prone to extreme overheating. Another major issue with wireless chargers is inefficient power transfer. To ensure charge efficiency of 97%, OnePlus has included the industry’s first isolated charge pumps to minimize the amount of energy converted into heat.

The official OnePlus blog says, “the isolated charge pump deactivates charging when abnormal currents and voltages are detected.”The innovative and superfast wireless charging tech by OnePlus will be dubbed “Warp Charge 30 Wireless,” similar to its proprietary wired charging technology.

Besides, OnePlus 8 Pro is expected to feature 120Hz display, Snapdragon 865, and 5G support.
