The most affordable BMW car in India, the BMW X1 SUV has been given a facelift, an updated BS6 engine and also a performance boost.
The BMW X1 Facelift, as it’s being called, has been launched at a starting price of Rs 35.90 lakh and is available in both petrol and diesel engines.
The Diesel engine of the BMW X1 is the more popular one due to its strong pickup and a punchy mid-range. Therefore, the auto enthusiasts must feel glad to know that the new BMW X1 BS6 Diesel is now quicker than its BS4 counterpart.

BMW X1 BS6: Most Affordable BMW In India
The BMW X1 is powered by a 2-liter TWINPOWER Turbo 4-cylinder engine which is available in both petrol and diesel engines.
The petrol motor produces 192 HP and 280 Nm of torque, while the diesel engine generates around 190 HP and a massive 400 Nm of torque.
The BMW X1 sDrive20d xline diesel, or simply the BMW X1 diesel as I like to call it, costs around Rs 39.90 lakh ex-showroom and it’ll be the best seller among the bunch.
The BS6 diesel motor is already faster than its BS4 version in a 0-100 km/h run.
When the BS4 version took 8.07 seconds to go from 0-100 km/h, the BS6 BMW X1 did the same in 7.72 seconds. Even in the Kickdown acceleration test, the BMW BS6 engine is quicker than its BS4 counterpart by several seconds. The testing was done by Autocar India.
BMW has used a Diesel Particulate filter in combination with a selective catalytic reduction unit to make the diesel engine BS6 compliant.
Should You Buy The Most Affordable BMW X1?
Based on the reviews coming in, the new BMW X1 is better than the last-gen in terms of overall performance. Additionally, with the addition of a new petrol base variant, called the xSport, you can now own a brand new BMW in India by paying Rs 35.90 lakh for an ex-showroom price.
However, if you’re looking for other options in a similar price segment then the Volvo XC-40 or the Mercedes-Benz GLA can also be great options.
