After months of waiting, Xiaomi has finally announced the next-gen MIUI 12 at an event in China. Alongside this, the Chinese tech giant has also launched Mi 10 Youth Edition.
While users can apply for the MIUI 12 closed beta program, the stable version of MIUI 12 China ROM will start rolling out by the end of June. That means Mi global fans can expect the MIUI 12 update in July or August.
MIUI 12 Top Features
With the new update, Xiaomi has made an insane amount of design changes and has exceeded the expectations of Mi fans. Starting with animations based on Xiaomi’s home-baked physical animation engine, it has tweaked a lot of things.
New Animations
On the surface, the most noticeable animations include a new icon delete animation and button simulation animation. In addition, there are new animations in the Xiaomi apps as well.
On the home screen, there are new animations for everything, starting with opening or closing apps, opening the recent apps page, or scrolling through the recent apps. Other than that, there is a new dynamic weather animation on the lock screen.
UI changes
The overall UI is now cleaner, with more white spaces. Most of the Xiaomi settings will display information in the form of graphs, charts which Xiaomi is calling a “Sensory Visual Design.”
App Behaviour Records
As we expected, Xiaomi has introduced the app behavior records privacy feature in MIUI 12. The feature records actions performed by different apps and present in the form of record history. On top of that, the feature throws notifications when an app is using sensitive system capabilities.
Set of Android 10 features
The MIUI 12 update also brings in the Android 10 features that were left out in the last MIUI 11 update. The Android 10 navigation gestures are now available to Xiaomi users. Other than that, the privacy feature for allowing location while using an app is also bundled into the MIUI 12 update. Users will also see a separate privacy management page in the settings.

Xiaomi has introduced new space exploration 3D wallpapers. The wallpaper zooms in every time you unlock the phone.
Dark Mode and Changes In Always-On Display
Let’s not forget MIUI 12’s Dark Mode 2.0, which now includes wallpaper dimming, tweaks the font to increase readability, and is now supported by thousands of apps. Also, there are 1000 new animations, new stickers for the Always-On display.
Other small changes include a minimalist mode to make navigation easier for the elderly people, and a game acceleration mode.
Sleep Tracker
Last but not least, Xiaomi has added a sleep tracker to improve the user’s sleep cycle. Xiaomi devices will be able to record REM sleep i.e., the time when the user was dreaming.
MIUI 12 Supported devices
The MIUI 12 roll-out is divided into three phases. The first phase will get the MIUI 12 update by the end of June.
