Short Bytes: Microsoft is rumored to unveil Lumia 650 — its last Lumia phone — on February 1st. According to the sources, it will be a business-focused budget smartphone that will run the latest Windows 10 Mobile operating system. However, the last Lumia phone doesn’t mean the end of Windows 10  Mobile. Instead, Microsoft is expected to go ahead with its long-rumored Surface Phone lineup.

After writing off the most part of its ill-fated Nokia deal, Microsoft promised to launch a more impressive phone lineup. In the past, company has struggled to compete with its Android and iOS counterparts, and revived its market strategy multiple times.

In past few months, we’ve seen new high-end Windows 10 Mobile devices Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. A report from Windows Central claims that Redmond is planning to unveil its budget Lumia 650 smartphone soon.

Rumored Specifications of Lumia 650:

This device will reportedly be a business-focused handset with a 5-inch display, 8GB internal storage, 1GB RAM, an 8-megapixel primary camera, and a 5-megapixel rear camera. The report tells that the company will reveal the detailed specifications and pricing on February 1 amid little fanfare.

The phone will run on Windows 10 out-of-the-box and come with dual SIM support. It’s said to be powered by a Snapdragon 210 or 212 processor under the hood. Other features could include Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, HD Voice, and Wi-Fi calling.

Lumia 650 is expected to arrive in a slimmer metal design as compared to the existing Lumia phones.

Surface Phone — Future of Windows 10 Mobile?

The last Lumia phone doesn’t mean the end of Windows 10 Mobile. Instead, Microsoft is expected to go ahead with its long-rumored Surface Phone lineup. This flagship Microsoft device is known as ‘Panos Phone’ — named after the Microsoft Surface head Panos Panay.

In the past, Panay has hinted about the possibility of Surface Phone by saying — “Over time you want a consistent thread between the products, especially the hardware as well.”

Surface Phone could make an unlikely appearance in this year’s Mobile World Congress that will be held from February 22nd in Barcelona. Microsoft so far hasn’t announced its Mobile World Congress 2016 plans.

In another related news, Sony has just sent out invites to its MWC 2016 event. While the company is silent about the upcoming announcements, we could see a new mid-range phone or some kind of smartwatch  from Sony at the event.

Stay tuned with fossBytes, we’ll be covering MWC extensively to tell you about the latest announcements.
