Facebook has finally renamed itself to Meta Inc. in order to focus on its metaverse dreams. The change comes after the company was first incorporated in 2004, and it’s a visible sign that the Zuckerberg-led tech giant is quite serious about its VR and AR business.
But, people might have started to have questions like what will happen to their Facebook account under Meta Inc. Well, the simple answer is that nothing is going to change on the user level, as the name change is primarily a business decision.
Facebook has clearly stated in its blog post that the name change doesn’t invite any modifications to its current corporate structure. It means your Facebook account will continue to operate as it should and do the job of a birthday reminder tool.
The case of other subsidiaries, including Instagram and WhatsApp, should be the same unless the company comes up with any further announcement which is quite unlikely.
Facebook’s name change is one of the biggest events in tech history as the company caters to more than 3 billion users across all of its platforms. In the past, Google did a similar thing when it put all of its subsidiaries under the “Alphabet” name. However, the difference here is that Facebook hasn’t created a new parent company but just renamed itself.
