Short Bytes: Nadine, an AI-powered human companion who is also emotionally intelligent, is working as a receptionist as Nanyang Technological University. With her human-like skin and almost real looking hair, she makes it easier for the humans to approach her and talk to her. Nadine is surely a cue of the humanoid future.
- What will be the future of robotics?
- Will artificial intelligence be ever empathetic towards human behaviour?
- Will AI-powered robots ever be able to seamlessly behave and blend with human perpetual existence?
Just like we take a guess by glancing at taking a grain out of granary, the same way, we can discern the anticipatory behaviour of the futuristic robots by taking a cue from the distance humans have covered so far in this field.
Meet Nadine – a new social and ’emotionally intelligent’ robot from the scientists in Singapore. She is a precursor of things to arrive in the nearer future. Nadine is a realistic-looking humanoid machine with an edge over their obviously artificial counterparts. This makes Nadine standout from the crowd of the robots because her physical resemblance to ordinary people could help us interact with a machine in a more natural way.
To wipe out the fine and sane line which decides the distinction between human and machine, scientists have employed linguistics and psychology besides the conventional robotics to the robots. Is Nadine An Emotionally Intelligent Companion Robot?
Nadia Thalmann explains —
With soft skin and fairly convincing-looking hair, Nadine is a pretty emulation of an actual person. Nadine currently acts in the role of a ‘receptionist’ at Nanyang Technological University.
