Chipset maker MediaTek has announced a new member in its high-end Helio P processor series, dubbed the MediaTek Helio P90.
The new Helio P90 chipset comes equipped with the company’s new APU 2.0 AI architecture for enhanced AI performance, four times powerful than its predecessor processors — the Helio P70 and the Helio P60.
TL Lee, General Manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Communication business unit said, “The Helio P90 is an AI processing powerhouse with ultra-fast performance and a host of AI-powered imaging improvements.”
He added that this chip will reset consumer expectations of what a smartphone can do, and bring in a “new era of super high-resolution smartphone photography to the market.”
With eight cores, the Helio P90 is built with two Arm A75 processors clocked at 2.2GHz and six A55 processors ticking at 2.0GHz. It comes with Imagination Technologies PowerVR GM 9446 GPU and the CorePilot technology for enhanced performance.
The new SoC comes with support for a 48-megapixel camera or 24-megapixel+16-megapixel dual cameras with 30 FPS, upgraded ISPs with support for ISP AI engine for improved AI camera capabilities.
Additionally, the Helio P90 supports dual SIM dual VoLTE 4G LTE, 2×2 802.11ac and Bluetooth 5.0.
The MediaTek Helio P90 is expected to be available globally, starting Q1 2019.
