Short Bytes: John McAfee doesn’t have a fantastic reputation online. His blatant interviews regarding the ongoing FBI vs. Apple case has earned him multiple critics on the web. In a new interview, he has challenged the Reddit users, saying, “You get me on a coding table, against somebody? I will kick your ass.”
In the past, he had offered his services for free to the FBI. Naturally, the Reddit crowd didn’t like his talk. “I’ll create my own backdoor, with blackjack and hookers! — John McAfee, 2016,” wrote one user. Another one wrote, “This man is batshit crazy. Undeniably brilliant, but batshit crazy. Also 100% correct. (and still crazy)”. A headline in Ars Technica even read — “John McAfee better prepare to eat a shoe because he doesn’t know how iPhones work.”
These developments have infuriated the 70-year-old man and he had a lot to say in his interview with Inverse.
Explaining why his reputation isn’t so great online, the reactions on Reddit, and his iPhone hacking explanation, he said —
“I speak through the press, to the press, and to the general public. I gave a vastly oversimplified explanation of how you would hack into the iPhone. I can’t possibly go in and talk about the secure spaces on the A7 chip. I mean, who’s going to understand that crap? Nobody. But you gotta believe me: I understand it. And I do know what I’m doing, else I would not be where I am. This is a fact. Someone who does not understand software cannot start a multi-billion dollar company. This is just a fact of life. So, if I look like an idiot, it is because I am speaking to idiots.”
“And I know — I know, to the Reddit crowd, I probably look like the stupidest man on the planet. Well, I don’t give a flying fuck. I’m not dissing Reddit. It’s a bunch of smart people. But that’s not who I’m talking about — I don’t need to educate them: They are already educated. I need to educate those who are uneducated, and I cannot do it using language and concepts and principles that will impress Reddit. I’m not trying to impress Reddit. I don’t have a fucking clue why anybody would want to impress anybody.”
“And when people laugh at me? Well, go ahead: Have fun. Have fun. But I promise you this: You get me on a coding table, against somebody? I will kick your ass.”
