Imagine a situation wherein you could be jailed or fined if you don’t install a particular app. Well, then your nightmares are going to be true as not installing the Arogya Setu application has been made a punishable offense.
As per the latest reports, people living in Noida and Greater Noida will have to pay a fine of Rs 1000 if they have not installed India’s homemade Covid-19 tracing app on their smartphone.
Aarogya Setu App Installation Rules
People who will not have the Aarogya Setu app will be booked under Section 188 of IPC. The rule will be applicable not only to the residents of Noida and Greater Noida but also to those who are traveling to the mentioned cities for any purpose.
Section 188 of IPC says that if a person is found disobeying the orders of the public servants, they can be fined Rs 1000 or can be jailed for up to 6 months.
After a person is booked under section 188, the judicial magistrate will decide whether he/she has to pay fine or will be jailed.
However, the police officials of Noida and Greater Noida have said that they will let go of the people who agree to download the app in front of them at the time of checking.
Officials will also provide Wi-Fi hotspot to download the app. People will be fined or jailed only if they don’t install the app after repeated warnings.
The police will regularly check that the people have installed the app or not while patrolling.
Other Aspects
On one side, Indian authorities are forcing citizens to install the app irrespective of their connection with the containment zones. On the other side, French hacker Robert Baptiste with Twitter name Elliot Anderson has found flaws in the app.

As per Eliott Anderson’s tweet, medical data of 90 million Indians is at risk due to the Aarogya Setu app. However, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) soon established communication with the hacker to know the issue.
Speculations are that the Niti Ayog will soon publish an official statement related to the points disclosed by the hacker.
