There have been multiple rumors about the upcoming iPhone 2018 Plus models regarding the dual sim support feature. Many popular tabloids including 9to5Mac have cited different sources for suggesting that the feature is expected to release in the newer iPhone models releasing this fall.
Now, with the release of iOS 12 developer beta 5, these rumors have taken a concrete form. There are pieces of evidence that suggest that the Apple could bring dual sim support to certain regions.
Diagnostic reports of the developer beta contain references to “second SIM status” and a “second SIM tray status.” Another component in the reports also hints at a “dual sim device.”
The proofs indicate that the Plus models would allow users to switch between the two sims without removing sims from the slots. The device would have two physical sim trays and not just one slot beside an e-SIM.
This is not the first time when Apple has hinted hardware and software changes by leaving their traces in developer beta software updates. Earlier, iPhone X’s screen design was revealed by Apple’s HomePod firmware and beta versions of iOS 11 also correctly predicted the Face ID and Animojis.
With dual sim phones hugely popular in Europe and Asia, this could be a good news for all the users who use two sims on a regular basis. As per the reports from Device Atlas in 2017, smartphone users from countries including Nigeria, Brazil, and Egypt use dual sims more than the users of the developed countries.
In countries like India where dual sim feature is found in many smartphones, Apple would be able to attract more users if the newer models of iPhone get this feature.
Apple is expected to launch new versions of iPhone during their event which is usually organized in September according to the trend.
