Stories are one of the most popular Instagram features. For those who are not on the platform, Instagram stories are like WhatsApp statuses but with more perks. Instagram announced today that it’s bringing a Like feature to Stories which will be coming to iOS soon.
In a blog post, Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, wrote, “Each part of the app – Feed, Explore, Reels – uses its own algorithm tailored to how people use it. People tend to look for their closest friends in Stories, but they want to discover something entirely new in Explore. We rank things differently in different parts of the app based on how people use them.”
He also stressed how important the metric is for the algorithm to work well. The feature was first spotted by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi. In the tweet, he also said that the feature allows you to drop a like bomb on the same story.

Earlier this day, the platform made headlines because of the decision to remove the swipe-up functionality. The release date of the Like feature is not yet known.
