It’s really happening! Huawei devices are, at last, getting to taste the Android Pie. After a thrilling announcement at the IFA 2018, Huawei left off with a big surprise for its users — Android Pie beta version is now available for Huawei device users in the form of EMUI 9.

Android Pie is the latest Android version from Google. It encompasses a whole bunch of new features like Gesture navigation, Digital Wellbeing, revamped Notification panel and much more. While the Android Pie device list has remained quiet for a few days, it seems like Huawei is bringing a slew of devices to get the excitement going.

List of Huawei devices compatible for Android Pie powered EMUI 9:

Huawei

  • Huawei P20 Pro
  • Huawei P20
  • Huawei Mate 10
  • Huawei Mate 10 Pro

Honor

  • Honor 10

EMUI 9 top new features and improvements:

Like with every device, Android Pie in Huawei has some impressive new features and UI improvements, including Huawei’s own digital wellbeing features to limit of app usage and “wind down” feature. Then there is gesture navigation based on Android Pie — Up swipe opens recent apps, and an inward swipe from the left takes you back.

Apart from that, we see a lot of visual changes like the revamped settings app with artistic illustrations. Also, controls and tabs are moved to the bottom of the screen for easy access (Huawei apps).

How to get EMUI 9 beta:

If you have one of the devices, here is how you can get the Android Pie-based EMUI 9 for your Huawei device:

  1. Go to Huawei’s Friendly User Test page.
    2. Tap on “Download” button to download the beta app
    3. Install the app on your device
  2. Sign up for an account if you haven’t already
    4. Tap on Personal ⇒ Join project
    5. Select the EMUI 9 project and tap on sign up

Once you complete the Android Pie beta program process, you will get the OTA (over the air) update notification in a few minutes.
