In a statement sent to EW, HBO has confirmed the leak. “HBO recently experienced a cyber incident, which resulted in the compromise of proprietary information,” the statement said. HBO further added that they have begun the investigation with the help of law enforcement and cyber security firms.
In the hack, reportedly 1.5TB data has been leaked. The upcoming TV episodes have also been apparently uploaded online. That’s not all. The hackers have also said that more is coming soon.
However, HBO hasn’t commented on the specifics of this Game of Thrones leak.
The email from the hackers, which was sent to many reporters, labeled the leak as the greatest leak of cyberspace era. Officially, the biggest hack in the entertainment industry was suffered by Sony, where tens of thousands of emails and video files were released.
“What’s its name? Oh I forget to tell. Its HBO and Game of Thrones……!!!!!! You are lucky to be the first pioneers to witness and download the leak. Enjoy it & spread the words. Whoever spreads well, we will have an interview with him. HBO is falling,” the HBO and Game of Thrones leak email read.
For those who don’t know, HBO isn’t unfamiliar with such incidents. In 2015, the first 4 episodes of Game Of Thrones Season 5 were leaked online. Following this, in 2016, a season 6 episode was released early.
