The company behind last year’s Marvel’s Avengers game, Square Enix, is reportedly developing a Guardians of the Galaxy game. Industry insider and journalist Jeff Grubb revealed the information on his YouTube channel. In an episode of Game Mess, a series of podcasts that Grubb hosts on his YouTube channel, he can be heard revealing how the studio is taking on another Marvel superhero series video game.
“Square Enix is apparently in the works of a Guardians of the Galaxy game; in terms of what that means, what that looks like, I don’t know,” said Grubb. Furthermore, Grubb mentioned how he has no idea if the studio will reveal the game at E3 next month. This indicates he knows more about the game’s development and probably isn’t at the liberty to disclose more information regarding the game.
When it comes to game rumors, Grubb tends to be a reliable source. Moreover, the industry insider chooses his words carefully in case of rumors. However, fans should take this news with a grain of salt. The studio is yet to make any official statement regarding the Guardians of the Galaxy game.
Not the first game based on Marvel’s superheroes
Remember how Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers game was all the hype last year? Well, as a Marvel fan myself, I was hyped up about the game finally coming to life. Not to mention the hype for this Guardians of the Galaxy game. However, little did we know what was about to happen.
Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers didn’t live up to the hype and quite frankly was a disappointment to many, regardless of the mixed reviews it got. Overall the game felt bland and grindy, with dry environments and monotonous fighting. On the other hand, the single-player mode was well received owing to an enjoyable story.
We hope Square Enix has learned what went wrong with Marvel’s Avengers game and are ready to amend them with their apparent upcoming game, Guardians of the Galaxy.
