In an internet-breaking announcement, Rockstar Games has officially confirmed that the next entry in the widely popular Grand Theft Auto franchise is in the works. This announcement comes after years of speculation and rumors about a new GTA game.

The forthcoming GTA sequel, expected to be titled “GTA 6,” would be the first major title in the series since 2013’s GTA 5. This is the longest gap between any two main games in the series’ history. For comparison, the second-longest gap is about 5 years between GTA 4 (2008) and GTA 5.

In an official community update, Rockstar Games broke the news of the next GTA being in development to the fans. The excerpt highlighting the status of the company’s next big project eventually landed on Twitter.

GTA 6 Announcement Breakdown

As evident from the message, Rockstar Games has been working on GTA 6 for some time now. But, the American firm is still tight-lipped on even the most fundamental details about the game.

However, there have been many rumors floating around the internet. This includes prominent speculations that say the game will mark a return to Vice City (a fictional version of Miami, Florida).

Interestingly, the critically-acclaimed game publisher also underlined the impressive yet controversial longevity of GTA 5. This year, the game will complete 9 years since its initial release for PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013.

Moreover, it has amusingly been a part of three console generations till now. The latest generation, comprising of PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, is soon to receive its own port of GTA 5 later this year.

As per Rockstar’s update, there will be more news about GTA 6 dropping in the near future. This wait shouldn’t be much of a problem, bearing in mind that the fans have already bested the nine-year-long wait for the official confirmation. Sound off your expectations from the game in the comments below.
