Pixel 6 And 6 Pro Are Now Official: Price Starts At $599

Google's Tensor SoC is the star of the show.

The next iteration of Google’s Pixel flagships, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, have finally landed after a long period of teasers and rumors. The Pixel 6 series is also unlike the devices Google has been launching for the last couple of years (mid-range devices).

In this article, let’s glance over the Pixel 6 series, its specifications, and, more importantly, the pricing, which is bound to attract many people.

One of the things that Google was the proudest of in the Pixel 6 series is the Tensor SoC. With the Pixel 6, Google decided to ditch Qualcomm SoCs in favor of its homemade chip. We knew that Tensor (Codenamed Whitechapel) was coming thanks to Android 12’s source code.

Google Tensor

Tensor is an octa-core SoC with a weird combination of cores – 2 x Cortex-X1 primary cores clocked at 2.8GHz, 2 x ARM Cortex-A76 high-performance cores clocked at 2.2GHz, and 4 x ARM Cortex-A55 power-efficient clocked at 1.80GHz.

Tensor specs

This tells us that the Geekbench results which were spotted last month were indeed correct.

Google also introduced Tensor Security core and Titan M2 chip, making it one of the most secure Pixel devices yet. Google has also doubled up on the sustainability front on the Pixel 6 and will now offer five years of updates.

Google also claims that the Tensor SoC is 80% faster than the Snapdragon 765G in CPU performance and 370% faster GPU performance. However, no Geekbench or AnTuTu benchmarks were shared.

Cameras and Features

The Pixel 6 and the 6 Pro come with 50MP Wide and 12MP ultrawide cameras, but the Pixel 6 misses out on a 48MP Telephoto camera. Both of them are capable of recording 4K at 60fps.

Pixel 6 Pro Camera

Pixel 6 uses folded optics which bends the light to 90 degrees to allow up to 20X zoom, which Google is calling Super Res Zoom.

Thanks to Tensor, the Pixel 6 series also features a Magic eraser feature that can remove unwanted subjects from an image. The phone also takes pictures from both Primary and ultrawide cameras and combines them to reduce the amount of motion blur.

Real Tone is another feature that will help click more accurate skin tones, especially the darker skin tones. This was helped by taking more face samples and reducing stray light. If one doesn’t like how they look in a photo, they can manually enhance it.

Google has also improved speech recognition. Tensor allows better speech typing making it up to three times faster while using less than half of the power.

Pixel 6’s live translate helps translate messages on the fly. The feature is directly integrated into Gboard for faster access. From the demo that Google showed, it looks very responsive and feature-rich. For example, when speaking, the sentences will be filled with punctuations automatically.

If you thought that was it, Pixel 6 could also transcribe phone tree menus. Here’s how it works.

Apart from that, if you’re calling a business, you can directly check the wait times on the Phone app.

Pixel 6 and 6 Pro: Pricing and Availability

Finally, the Pixel 6 starts at $599, whereas the Pixel 6 Pro starts at $899. Both the phones will be available to order starting October 28th. As for the countries, it’ll be available in, Google didn’t share the list of countries. But from the leaks and rumors, it will be coming to the US, Japan, Canada, and the UK.
