It is a universally accepted fact that Microsoft has failed to clarify it to the users that who will be getting the free Windows 10 upgrade. In this article, I’m going to try to clear those confusion-clouds as Windows 10 is coming soon.

The most advanced version of Windows i.e. Windows 10 is coming to a PC near you on July 29. I’ve been testing the Windows 10 Technical preview from some time and it surely has some noteworthy improvements over its predecessor.

Here’s a chart given ahead prepared by Labnol.org that tries to explain this upgrade situation clearly. There are some points that are known to everybody and one of them is that the people running a genuine Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 will get a free upgrade to the Windows 10 operating system.

However, if you are running the older versions of Windows (Windows XP), you’ll have to upgrade to Windows 10 by shelling out $119 for the standard edition or $199 for the Pro edition.

This flowchart has been further elaborated by Lifehacker and it includes the fact that the Windows 10 Technical Preview users too will get the genuine Windows 10 upgrade if they had performed the Preview install over a genuine Windows 7, 8 or 8.1.

The same applies if you are running a pirated copy of Windows 7, 8 or 8.1.
