Facebook’s messenger app is one of the best apps to communicate with your friends online. More people are already using the Messenger on the web browser to make audio and video calls. So, looking at the growing demand, Facebook decided to release the standalone Messenger app for desktop.

In hard times like this, when people have no choice but to work from home, more people are finding online communication apps useful.

According to Stan Chudnovsky, Messenger VP, the company noticed “more than a 100% increase in people using their desktop browser for audio and video calling on Messenger.”

The Messenger desktop app has to compete with other popular online communication apps like Google Meets and FaceTime. Also, with apps like Zoom losing user’s trust because of security concerns, it’s good that people are getting one more alternative.

However, you must know that very much like Zoom, Facebook is also not very trustworthy when it comes to security. The company is always under fire for disappointing its users. Nevertheless, people will still download the Messenger desktop app because they are familiar with it.

The desktop app doesn’t give you any additional features; it’s just that it removes the need to log in to Facebook on the web browser. But if you’re new to the Facebook Messenger, then here are all the features you can enjoy:

  • Group video calls
  • Text messaging
  • Desktop notifications
  • Chats synced across devices
  • Dark Mode
  • GIFs, stickers, emoji

You can download the Facebook Messenger desktop app from Microsoft Store and Mac App Store.
